Safety Alert

Lawrence Township residents are reminded that coyotes are a natural part of our local ecosystem and generally avoid people and pets. Still, a few simple precautions can help prevent unwanted encounters.

Never feed coyotes or other wildlife. Keep dogs on a standard leash, especially in parks, and do not leave pets unattended in unfenced yards. Do not approach, confront or try to photograph a coyote. If one comes near, do not run; make yourself appear larger, wave your arms and make loud noises, or use a whistle or air horn to scare it away.

It is illegal to trap or relocate wildlife in New Jersey. To report an injured or sick coyote during regular business hours, call Lawrence Animal Control at 609- 844-7092 or the NJ Fish and Wildlife Control Unit at 908-735-8793.
